Abstrakt:

Předmětový heslář MeSH nebo též Tezaurus MeSH (řízený slovník) je jeden z nejvýznamnějších předmětových heslářů / tezaurů současnosti. Jeho oficiální vznik se datuje k roku 1960, kdy vyšlo jeho první vydání při příležitosti zahájení publikování nové ediční řady referátového časopisu „Index Medicus“ (později počítačové databáze MEDLINE). Jeho obsah vycházel z předešlé publikace autoritního souboru s názvem „Subject heading authority list: used by the Current List Division, Armed Forces Medical Library Washington“, která vyšla již v roce 1954. --- Heslář MeSH z roku 1960 obsahoval 4 400 předmětových hesel (deskriptorů). Jeho digitalizovaná forma je dostupná z webových stránek NLM. V digitalizované formě lze prohlížet publikaci jako celek, nebo zvlášť jednotlivé části digitalizovaného exempláře, zejména pak abecedně uspořádaný permutovaný rejstřík hesel a jejich odkazů. Hlavní obsah publikace tvoří abecedně uspořádaný permutovaný rejstřík, který zahrnuje záznamy (entries) preferovaných předmětových termínů (vysázených velkými písmeny) a nepreferovaných termínů (vysázených malými písmeny) s odkazem typu „see“ na preferovaný termín. Záznam preferovaného termínu může zahrnovat odkazy typu „see also“ na jiné preferované termíny a dále odkazy typu „see from“ (předznačené písmenem „x“) a typu „see also from“ (předznačené dvěma písmeny „xx“). --- Do dnešní doby vyšlo na papírovém nosiči velké množství dílčích revidovaných vydání a verzí systému MeSH, například 2. vydání hesláře MeSH bylo realizováné v roce 1963 (zahrnulo již 5 700 hesel (deskriptorů)), vydání z roku 1967 (http://books.google.cz/books?id=dW0LngEACAAJ&dq), vydání z roku 1984 (http://books.google.cz/books?id=cAPpAAAAMAAJ&q) aj.
